THE NEW NEW THING

People assume the hard part of hosting is the food, but it’s always the list.

Anyone can fill a room. I’m more interested in who is standing next to whom, and why. That is the entire job, and the piece that brands often need an ally for. They know their collections inside and out, but they don’t always know that the editor who will wear it should be seated near the client who will actually buy it, or that the two of them in conversation is worth more than any post. I do know that. It is most of what I am being asked for, even when the brief says something else.

So when Kirna Zabête wanted to debut with Serpentine Jewelry, the pairing was the easy part. Two brands that understand the same woman, in a room built for her to see both at once. I opened my home, I built the list the way I build every list, and I watched the right people find each other.

That is the difference between an event and an activation. An activation gets you reach. A salon gets you the woman who tries on the ring, asks where you found it, and comes back in November with her whole list. I have always known which one is worth building.
